About Nicola's Classes:
Egyptian dance is an expression of joy and femininity. The amazing music and unique movements together create a genre that is playful, nuanced, body-friendly, flattering to all body types, and adaptable to a variety of abilities and personalities.

Egypt is home to several dance forms including raks sharqi (bellydance). Nicola is one of only a few performers and teachers in Manitoba to have pursued advanced training in Egyptian dance with some of its best professionals.

Nicola has worked and trained as a performed of Egyptian and related dance forms for more than a decade.   She has also pursued teacher training as a certified instructor of Middle Eastern dance.  She is currently the only fully certified, Level 3 teacher in Manitoba of Hadia's Body Logic method, having completed this course in October of 2011. Hadia's Body Logic philosophy and methodology are revolutionary, promising not only a less injurious way of dancing but also dancing as an actual therapeutic practice.   Nicola is very passionate about providing the best-quality experience of dance for her students.

Nicola's classes are a fun, enlightening and offer you an authentic dance experience.

Nicola combines lengthy and diverse experience as a performer, professional training as a certified educator, an extensive background in amateur sports, formal training and examination in classical piano (Royal Conservaotry method) and stage band saxophone, and professional training in the performance and instruction of  dance.  The result is a learning environment that is fun, innovative, supportive, and thorough. Classes emphasize body-friendly, therapeutic movement, as well as the artistry of the dance, so you gain the skills, understanding, and appreciation of this most beautiful and complex dance tradition while you learn to dance in way that respects and appreciates your unique body.

Classes & levels include the dynamic and up-to-date use of best-practice technique and teaching methods including: clear explanations; clear language to describe movements; step-by-step progressive breakdowns; correct demonstration in slow motion and full speed; use of voice and touch to increase body awareness and coordination; corrections; body awareness and best use of muscles; games; humour; combinations, transitions, and sequences in various rhythms and styles; partner and group creative work; practice "drills"; imagery; and choreography using real movements and authentic music, appropriate for the level.

Safer, effective, correct technique using a straight-forward approach teaches you the actual, essential movements of Egyptian dance as danced in Egypt.   You will learn about how your body can move and how it should move to achieve better balance, health, and mobility.

Nicola only offers classes in quality dance or fitness studios where there is proper flooring and mirrors.  She also has lower class maximums than most.  This allows you to enjoy some personal attention in a friendly atmosphere.

Students in all levels receive a copy of the level's syllabus; basic handout package; first notification of new content added to the site; first access to registration;  renewal discounts; access to at-cost supplies; and notes on any choreographies.
