Class Discription: A gently-paced introduction to some of the essential technique, theory, and cultural/historical information of Egyptian raks sharqi (Orientale dance) and some American-style bellydance. This ancient, complex, and beautiful dance form challenges the mind and body, opens the heart, and lifts the spirit. A brief introduction to finger cymbals and veil in some classes of the session (provided by instructor). Ideal for those with limited dance experience who are curious and want to try it out, our focus is on learning, having fun, body awareness, and relaxation. Women only. Pregnant or post-partum women, and anyone with chronic health issues should consult a health care professional before attending.
